RI-LAVO range of sonicators can be grouped in three different classes:

1. Hand-held: these devices are small, lightweight, and designed for ease of use and portability. They typically consist of a generator, a converter, and a probe or horn that is directly inserted into the sample. These sonicator are not ideal for very large volumes or continuous processing but more suitable for small to medium sample sizes due to their size and power.

2. Countertop: These are larger and more powerful than hand-held models. Designed for processing larger sample volumes or handling multiple samples simultaneously. They offer more precise control and higher throughput and are commonly used for applications like sample preparation, emulsification, cell lysis, and particle size reduction

3. Industrial Sonicators: These are even larger and are designed for industrial-scale applications. Ideal for continuous processing and handling very large volumes and feature advanced controls and can be integrated into automated production lines. Commonly used in various industries like pharmaceuticals, food processing, and chemical manufacturing.
    

All these sonicators operate on the same basic principle of ultrasonic cavitation, but they differ in scale, power, and the level of automation they offer. The choice between hand-held, counterhtop, or industrial models depends on the specific needs of the application, including the volume of material to be processed, the desired level of control and precision, and the overall scale of the operation.
